These projects will expand the Indian Railways network by about 145 kilometers across four districts in the states of Odisha and Jharkhand. The enhancements are expected to significantly increase rail line capacity, improving operational efficiency and service reliability.
Aligned with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the projects emphasize multimodal connectivity and logistic efficiency through integrated planning. They aim to provide seamless movement of passengers, goods, and services.
The multitracking initiatives will benefit roughly 1,526 villages with a combined population of about 14 lakh residents. Enhanced rail connectivity will also support tourism by improving access to key sites such as the Lalitgiri Buddhist Complex, Shree Baladevjew Temple, and Meghahatuburu Hills.
These routes are vital for transporting commodities like coal, iron ore, dolomite, limestone, and gypsum. The capacity upgrades are expected to handle an additional freight volume of 44 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The use of rail, an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient mode of transport, will contribute to India’s climate goals, reduce logistics costs, cut oil imports by an estimated 6 crore liters, and lower CO2 emissions by approximately 29 crore kilograms — equivalent to planting one crore trees.
These projects support the Prime Minister’s vision of a New India by fostering comprehensive regional development and increasing employment and self-employment opportunities in the area.
