The new AC services are expected to be launched soon, utilizing an AC rake that has been idle in the CR fleet for the past two months. Railway officials have confirmed that the detailed timetable for these services will be announced shortly.
As part of this initiative, some existing non-AC suburban trains will be withdrawn and replaced with AC trains. The new AC services will primarily run during morning and evening peak hours to better serve commuters traveling between CSMT and Kalyan.
The expansion aims to enhance passenger safety and comfort. AC locals feature automatic closed doors that reduce the risk of passengers traveling on footboards and accidental falls from moving trains.
This development follows the recent introduction of 14 AC local services on the Harbour line, launched on Maharashtra Day, May 1. Railway authorities are steadily increasing the share of AC services on Mumbai’s suburban network as part of a strategic effort to modernize commuter rail travel.
While the move has been welcomed for its focus on safety and comfort, some commuters have expressed concerns about replacing existing non-AC services. Currently, CR operates AC services on both the main and Harbour corridors, with a growing number of passengers choosing these options despite ongoing concerns over affordability and punctuality.
