Indian Railways Approves ₹493 Crore Doubling Project for Adipur-Bhuj Section in Gujarat

Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the 49 km Adipur-Bhuj section on the Western Railway network in Gujarat. The project, sanctioned at a cost of ₹493 crore, aims to boost railway infrastructure and capacity in the Kutch region.

This approval falls under Indian Railways’ ongoing programme to enhance network capacity through doubling, tripling, and other works. The Adipur-Bhuj section, currently a single-line route on the Gandhidham-Naliya corridor, will benefit from increased capacity and improved operational efficiency once doubled.

Several railway infrastructure projects in the region are already underway, including the Bhuj-Naliya Gauge Conversion, extension of the Naliya-Vayor line, and new lines connecting Naliya-Jakhau, Vayor-Lakhpat, and Deshalpar-Luna. As these projects near completion, a significant rise in both passenger and freight traffic is expected along the Adipur-Bhuj section.

The doubling project is designed to accommodate this growth by enabling two additional passenger train services in each direction daily. Furthermore, the doubled line will support an increased freight movement capacity of 12 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA), strengthening logistics and industrial connectivity in western Gujarat.

Current capacity utilisation on the line is anticipated to reach 123% by 2029-30, underscoring the urgent need for expansion. The doubling work will alleviate congestion, reduce operational constraints, and improve the reliability of services on this key route. It is also expected to contribute to Indian Railways’ revenue growth by facilitating greater passenger and freight volumes.

With this project, Indian Railways reinforces its commitment to developing future-ready infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and expanding the capacity of the national rail network to meet increasing transportation demands in the Kutch region.
