Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, confirmed that this upgrade will raise the total number of 15-car services on the network to 32. These additional coaches will boost the carrying capacity of each service by approximately 25%.
All 10 upgraded local train services will operate on the Central Railway’s Main Line, specifically the CSMT to Karjat South East line. This enhancement will particularly benefit passengers travelling to and from Ambarnath.
Historical context: The first 15-car local train services were introduced on the Mumbai suburban network on October 16, 2012, with 16 such trains. Six more 15-car services were added on March 4, 2019, raising the total to 22 before this new augmentation.
