New Daytime Train Service Inaugurated on Guntakal-Markapur Road Route via Nandyal

In a notable development for the South Central Railway zone, a new daytime train service connecting Guntakal to Markapur Road via Nandyal was officially inaugurated on May 12, 2026. The service, flagged off by Dr. Byreddy Shabari, Member of Parliament for Nandyal and National General Secretary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), addresses a longstanding demand from the local populace for improved daytime rail connectivity in the region.
The introduction of this train service represents a strategic enhancement in the passenger rail network of Andhra Pradesh, particularly benefiting the Nandyal district. Historically, train services on this route operated predominantly during late-night hours, limiting accessibility and convenience for daily commuters and travelers. The new daytime schedule is expected to facilitate safer, more affordable, and more comfortable travel options, aligning with broader Indian Railways objectives to improve passenger experience and operational efficiency.
Dr. Shabari highlighted the significance of this development during the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by Sudheshna Sen, Divisional Railway Manager of the South Central Railway’s Guntur Division, alongside other railway officials. She emphasized that the new service fulfills a critical requirement voiced by residents and stakeholders in the region, who had submitted numerous petitions advocating for a daytime train option. The MP also acknowledged the proactive response from the Ministry of Railways, led by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who promptly issued directives to expedite the launch of the service following parliamentary discussions.
In addition to the new train service, Dr. Shabari outlined ongoing and planned initiatives aimed at modernising Nandyal Railway Station to elevate it to contemporary standards. The station is currently undergoing a comprehensive redevelopment project with an investment of ₹24 crore, designed to enhance passenger amenities and infrastructure. The vision is to transform the station into a facility comparable to an airport in terms of comfort, safety, and operational sophistication.
Complementing the station’s physical upgrades, the railway authorities have sanctioned the establishment of a new goods station at Nandyal. This development is expected to bolster freight handling capabilities, thereby supporting regional economic growth and improving logistical efficiency. Furthermore, the MP indicated that a proposal has been submitted to the Central Government for the sanctioning of a “Fit Line at Nandyal, which would further augment the station’s capacity and operational flexibility.
Dr. Shabari also noted the introduction of special train services passing through Nandyal to key destinations such as Ajmer, Sabarimala, and Kadapa, catering to the travel needs of pilgrims and seasonal travelers. She assured that additional regular train services would be considered and implemented based on passenger demand and feedback, reflecting a responsive and passenger-centric approach by Indian Railways and local representatives.
The inauguration event included a symbolic journey wherein the MP and railway officials purchased tickets and traveled a segment of the new route, engaging directly with passengers to gather insights and reinforce the commitment to service quality.
