MP Advocates Strategic Railway Enhancements to Bolster Connectivity in Palnadu and Andhra Pradesh
Proposals aim to strengthen freight and passenger services, supporting regional economic growth and infrastructure development
In a concerted effort to enhance railway infrastructure and connectivity in the Palnadu region and across Andhra Pradesh, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Member of Parliament from Narasaraopet and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Lok Sabha Floor Leader, engaged with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on May 11, 2026. The discussions focused on advancing key railway projects that are expected to significantly contribute to the region’s economic development, freight movement efficiency, and passenger convenience.
During the meeting held in New Delhi, the MP presented a comprehensive set of proposals aimed at addressing critical gaps in the existing rail network. Central to these was the request for approval of a new railway corridor linking Piduguralla and Savalyapuram to Ramayapatnam Port. This proposed corridor is anticipated to play a pivotal role in enhancing the logistical framework for the transport of commodities such as cement, limestone, and agricultural products, which are vital to the industrial and agrarian sectors of Palnadu and the neighboring Prakasam district.
The establishment of direct rail connectivity to Ramayapatnam Port is expected to facilitate more efficient freight operations, reducing transit times and costs, thereby boosting trade competitiveness. In addition to freight infrastructure, the MP advocated for improved passenger services by requesting the inclusion of stoppages for premium trains at key stations within the region. Specifically, he proposed halting the Secunderabad–Tirupati Vande Bharat Express and the Lingampalli–Vijayawada Express at Nadikudi or Piduguralla stations. Such measures aim to alleviate travel challenges faced by daily commuters, including students, working professionals, and traders, thereby enhancing accessibility and convenience.
Recognizing the increasing passenger traffic between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka’s capital, Bengaluru, the MP further proposed the introduction of a new Vijayawada–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express service. This initiative is expected to cater to the growing demand for faster, reliable, and comfortable rail travel between these two major economic hubs, fostering greater inter-state connectivity and facilitating business and tourism exchanges.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw responded positively to the proposals, assuring that the Ministry would undertake a thorough examination of the suggested projects and service enhancements.
