Indian Railways maintains a highly secure and robust ticketing system. To prevent fraud in Tatkal ticket bookings, Aadhaar authentication and One-Time Password (OTP) verification have been implemented for selected trains.
Security measures include application layer controls to block scripting and brute-force attacks, network-level defenses against DDoS attacks, and deployment of enterprise-grade Content Delivery Network (CDN), anti-bot, secure DNS, and Web Application Firewall (WAF) services.
The system is hosted in an ISO 27001 certified data center in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, with physical security controls such as CCTV and restricted access. Continuous monitoring is conducted through integration with CERT-In TSAP and an on-premises security team.
Administrative and systemic anti-fraud measures have curtailed unauthorized access. Between 2021 and June 2026, the Railway Protection Force arrested 22,676 touts under the Railways Act, 1989.
In the last six months, approximately 57.74% of the 15.38 billion requests to the e-ticketing system were identified as bots and blocked.
Following the introduction of security enhancements from June 2025 to June 2026, Indian Railways maintains a balanced mix of online and counter ticket sales, ensuring secure and seamless booking for genuine passengers.
