RITES to Deliver First 20-Coach Train Rake to Bangladesh Within Two Months

RITES Limited, an Indian Railways public sector undertaking, is preparing to deliver the first rake of 20 Broad Gauge passenger coaches to Bangladesh Railway within the next two months. This delivery marks the beginning of a major supply contract for 200 BG passenger coaches contracted by Bangladesh Railway.

The contract was confirmed in April 2026 when Bangladesh Railway Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam informed Parliament that the 200 Broad Gauge coaches would be inducted between June 2026 and December 2027.

RITES has a strong history of collaboration with Bangladesh Railway, having previously supplied 120 BG LHB passenger coaches, 36 BG locomotives, and 10 Meter Gauge locomotives. The company is also involved in other railway infrastructure projects in Bangladesh.

Rahul Mithal, Chairman and Managing Director of RITES, stated that the prototype coaches have already been approved and that final production is currently underway. The coaches are in the finishing stage and the first rake is on track to be dispatched within about two months.

Following the first delivery, RITES plans to ramp up production, aiming to supply multiple rakes with a minimum gap of three to four rakes during the current financial year. This initiative is a key part of RITES’ export strategy and its ongoing partnership with Bangladesh Railway.
