West Bengal CM Prioritizes Double Railway Line from Nandakumar to Digha to Enable Vande Bharat Train Service

Digha, West Bengal – On June 14, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the Railway Board’s approval for the double railway line connecting Nandakumar to Digha. Speaking at a press conference in Digha, the CM emphasized that this upgrade is crucial for improving connectivity and enabling the operation of Vande Bharat trains from the coastal town.

Chief Minister Adhikari revealed that the Railway Board had been requesting land acquisition for this project for eight years, but it was not provided by the previous government. He noted that both he and the Railway Minister have met with the District Magistrate regarding the matter and held a conference focused on facilitating the land acquisition process.

“The priority is to establish the double railway line from Nandakumar to Digha; without it, how can the Vande Bharat train operate from here?” the CM stated. He further remarked that while every other coastal city is connected to the rest of the country by reliable rail infrastructure, Digha remained an exception because of past administrative delays.

In addition, the CM provided an update on the Nandigram railway project, confirming that 74 acres of land have been acquired and construction work is largely complete. Efforts are ongoing to obtain the remaining six acres needed to finalize the project.

During his visit to Digha, Suvendu Adhikari was warmly welcomed and also chaired an important administrative meeting to push forward these transportation initiatives.
