Indian Railways Sanctions ₹140 Crore for Kavach Installation in Ahmedabad Division, Gujarat

Indian Railways has approved a ₹140 crore project for installing Kavach Version 4.0 across 598 route kilometres in 48 block sections of the Ahmedabad Division under Western Railway in Gujarat. This initiative is part of the wider programme to equip remaining routes of Indian Railways with Kavach using an LTE-based communication backbone.

Previously, Kavach had been sanctioned on approximately 702 route kilometres within the Ahmedabad Division. With this new approval, the entire division will now be covered by the indigenous train protection system.

Kavach is an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system developed in India to enhance railway safety. It prevents Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), automatically applies brakes to avoid accidents, controls train speeds in critical scenarios, and reduces collision risks substantially.

This project marks a further step by Indian Railways to expand Kavach installations across its network, aimed at reinforcing safety protocols and modernising train operations.
