Indian Railways Sanctions ₹200 Crore Optical Fibre Cable Project for South Eastern Railway

Indian Railways has approved a major project to install a 48-fibre Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) network across the South Eastern Railway zone, with an investment of ₹200 crore.

The project involves laying OFC along approximately 1,696.2 route kilometres covering four key divisions in South Eastern Railway. This initiative aims to enhance the digital communication infrastructure essential for safe, efficient, and technology-driven operations.

The upgraded fibre optic network will provide a high-capacity, reliable communication backbone, supporting faster data transmission and improved coordination among stations, control centres, and field units.

This infrastructure upgrade is poised to support modern railway technologies, boost operational efficiency, and lay a strong digital foundation for future capacity expansion within the South Eastern Railway network.

This approval reflects Indian Railways’ ongoing commitment to modernising its critical infrastructure by deploying advanced communication systems, promoting safer and more efficient train operations nationwide.
