Currently, the Mansi-Saharsa stretch operates as a single line on the Mansi-Saraigarh route and handles intensive traffic, including 24 pairs of passenger trains daily. The route is crucial for transporting key commodities such as wheat, maize, ballast, boiled rice, cement, fertilisers, rice, salt, sand, stone, and sugar.
Line capacity utilization on this section has reached 108.11% and is anticipated to increase to 119.34% by the fiscal year 2028-29, highlighting an urgent need for capacity expansion.
The doubling project will add an extra track, enabling smoother and more punctual movement of passenger and freight trains and reducing operational delays. It is expected to enable handling of an additional 1.764 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight, bolstering logistics for agriculture, construction, and other key regional industries.
This development is part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to upgrade infrastructure on high-demand routes, improve service reliability, and ensure safer, faster, and more efficient transportation for both passengers and freight across India.
