The installation will cover six key railway sections within the East Coast Railway zone: Baghuapal–Budhapank, Haridaspur–Paradeep, Khurda Road (KUR)-Balangir, Naupada-Gunupur, Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh, and Bobbili-Salur.
This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to expand Kavach, supported by an LTE-based communication backbone, across the national railway network. Kavach is designed to improve operational safety by offering automatic train protection and collision avoidance.
The deployment is expected to benefit both passenger and freight operations in Odisha and adjoining areas served by the East Coast Railway. It further advances Indian Railways’ ongoing mission to implement Kavach on high-density and strategically important routes.
Kavach is an indigenously developed system that prevents signal passing at danger (SPAD), controls over-speeding, and helps avoid collisions by continuously monitoring train movements and automatically applying brakes when necessary. It also enhances the reliability and punctuality of train services during adverse weather conditions such as dense fog.
