
During May 2026, SWR handled an average of 2,275 wagons daily, up from 2,193 wagons per day in the previous year, reflecting a 3.7% increase.
Commodity-wise, SWR moved 1.766 MT of iron ore, 0.921 MT of steel, and 0.108 MT of Railway Materials and Stores (RMSP). Coal loading saw a significant rise of 23.3%, reaching 0.93 MT compared to 0.76 MT in May 2025. Food grains loading was recorded at 0.022 MT.
Container traffic also improved, increasing by 16.9% to 0.09 MT from 0.07 MT last year. The loading of Balance Other Goods (BOG) grew substantially by 56.3%, rising from 0.14 MT in May 2025 to 0.22 MT in May 2026.
Financially, SWR maintained stable performance with gross earnings of ₹770.71 crore in May 2026. Passenger earnings were a significant contributor, amounting to ₹302.34 crore, which is a 21.37% increase over the previous year. The number of passengers carried reached 16.36 million, up 6.72% compared to May 2025.
For the financial year up to May 2026, passenger revenue rose to ₹609.68 crore, a 16.2% growth. Freight revenue was ₹782.92 crore, other coaching revenue stood at ₹54.75 crore, and sundry revenue amounted to ₹34.11 crore. Total gross revenue for the period was ₹1,481.46 crore.
This record achievement underscores SWR’s strengthening role in freight and passenger services as it continues to enhance its operational capacity and financial stability.
