Indian Railways Enhances Train Safety with AI Surveillance and Strengthened Field Intelligence

In a strategic move to elevate safety standards across its vast network, Indian Railways is implementing advanced technological solutions alongside enhanced intelligence-gathering mechanisms. This initiative, underscored by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a high-level security review at Rail Bhawan, reflects the national transporter’s commitment to safeguarding passengers and assets amid recent security challenges.

For instance, at Amarpura station in Rajasthan, swift action by railway personnel prevented a fire from causing extensive damage after an individual attempted to ignite bedding materials on a train. Similarly, at Howrah station, the discovery of a petrol-soaked cloth in a train bathroom led to immediate containment measures. Other incidents at Kota and Sasaram further underscored the need for vigilant surveillance and rapid response capabilities.
The security review meeting also focused on expanding CCTV coverage across the railway network, ensuring comprehensive visual monitoring of trains, stations, and critical infrastructure. Enhanced coordination between the Railway Board headquarters and zonal field offices is being prioritized to streamline operational security and intelligence sharing.
