
The division loaded an average of 2,941.8 freight wagons daily, reflecting a 6.8% increase compared to June 2025. Total freight carried reached 4.4 million tonnes, marking a 10.2% year-on-year rise.
Key commodities contributing to this growth included coal, which saw a loading increase of 61.4%, fertiliser at 45%, and salt at 25.1%.
In the Gandhidham region, daily loading averaged 2,252.9 wagons, a 12.5% increase over the same period last year. Mundra Port’s double-stack container operations set a new record by loading 587 rakes in June 2026, surpassing the previous high of 570 rakes recorded in October 2025.
Operational efficiency improved with electric locomotive utilization rising by 3.3%. The division operated 156 long-haul freight trains during June, a remarkable 457.1% increase compared to the previous year.
A new routing milestone was achieved on June 21, when a mixed-commodity freight rake consisting of 21 BCN wagons was dispatched for the first time from Devaliya Multi-Modal Terminal to Bhanga on the Northeast Frontier Railway.
Addressing passenger demand, officials added 333 extra coaches to various trains and attached nine extra parcel vans to mail and express services during the month.
