Indian Railways Approves ₹206 Crore Kavach Deployment on 680 Kilometres of Northern Railway to Boost Safety

Indian Railways has approved the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 on 680 route kilometres of the Northern Railway’s Delhi Division. This includes the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections along with associated feeder branch lines. The project comes with an estimated cost of ₹206 crore.

This initiative is part of the nationwide expansion of India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, Kavach. Designed to enhance railway safety, Kavach helps prevent Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and train collisions by continuously monitoring train movements and automatically applying brakes when required.

Kavach also allows trains to operate safely at maximum permissible speeds and ensures reliable performance even under challenging weather conditions like dense fog.

The implementation of Kavach Version 4.0 on these key Northern Railway routes is expected to significantly improve safety, operational efficiency, and reliability for both passenger and freight train services, supporting faster and more technology-driven rail operations.
