Mr. Mittal emphasized that safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility. He urged people to always stop, look, and listen before crossing railway tracks. He warned against attempting to cross when gates are closed or warning signals are active, urged avoidance of rushing the crossing, and discouraged distractions such as using mobile phones. He also stressed following instructions from gatekeepers and railway staff, as well as using only authorized level crossings.
The ILCAD initiative is conducted following directives from the Railway Board to raise awareness about safe practices at level crossings and reduce accidents caused by negligence and unsafe crossing habits.
On the morning of June 9, a special awareness programme was held at Level Crossing Gate No. 04 between Mysuru and Ashokapuram Railway Stations. Alongside Mr. Mittal, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shammas Hameed and other senior officers inspected the crossing and engaged with road users to reinforce safety messages.
The campaign included distribution of safety pamphlets, interactive sessions, and live demonstrations of safe crossing practices. A ‘Nukkad Natak’ (street play) performed by the Scouts and Guides team of South Western Railway effectively conveyed key safety messages and encouraged responsible behavior.
A press statement from the Mysuru Railway Division noted the active participation of railway officials, staff, Scouts and Guides, and members of the public. The division reaffirmed its commitment to increasing public awareness and reinforcing the importance of safety at level crossings through such initiatives.
