Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw travelled on the Kolkata Metro from Jai Hind Station to Noapara Station, engaging with passengers to gather feedback on metro services. During this visit, he announced the induction of approximately 60 new-generation Metro trains into the Kolkata Metro network over the next four to five years. This modernization effort is expected to strengthen urban mobility in the city significantly.
Addressing the Kolkata Metro project at Chingrighata, Vaishnaw noted that the state government had pursued legal challenges up to the Supreme Court before the project could proceed. Both the High Court and the Supreme Court ruled in favor of continuing the work on this critical metro expansion.
The Railway Minister also mentioned he had requested West Bengal Chief Minister Adhikari to jointly review all ongoing railway projects in the state to ensure faster execution and completion.
Chief Minister Adhikari expressed his satisfaction with the approval of these long-awaited projects, highlighting the positive impact on suburban and main-line rail networks across the state. He described recent discussions as “highly productive,” focusing on accelerating railway infrastructure development.
Adhikari also emphasized the modernisation of key railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, which will offer world-class amenities to commuters and greatly enhance the overall passenger experience. These projects, involving investments worth thousands of crores of rupees, are expected to generate significant local employment and boost West Bengal’s economy.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Chief Minister stated, “When the State and the Centre work in tandem with a vision for development, the People win. We are committed to ensuring these projects are executed smoothly and swiftly for the benefit of the People of West Bengal.”
